HealthPoint Fitness Offers $10 Enrollment Special for Holiday Season

During this holiday season, join HealthPoint Fitness for a $10 enrollment fee when you bring in 10 canned goods for our Holiday Food Drive. HealthPoint can help you and your family stay fit through the holidays.

Each new member receives two personal training sessions and a 30-minute consultation with a HealthPoint dietitian. And, your donation will help needy families in our community.

Sounds of the Season Christmas Concert to Benefit Cancer Patients

The 17th annual Sounds of the Season Christmas Concert will be held at Cape Bible Chapel, 2911 Kage Rd., in Cape Girardeau on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m.

The concert will feature Master of Ceremonies Mike Dumey and top vocal and dance talent. Proceeds from the concert will support the Patient Experience Fund at the Southeast Cancer Center. Cape Girardeau orthodontist and cancer survivor Dr. David Crowe is the honorary chairperson. 

Ticket cost is a suggested $5 donation per person. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by contacting the SoutheastHEALTH Foundation office at 573-986-6622 or the Volunteer Services office at 651-5518.

Free Peripheral Artery Disease Screening Set for Dec. 6

A free peripheral artery disease screening will be held on Thursday, Dec. 6, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Cardiovascular Consultants, 371 S. Broadview in Cape Girardeau.

Have you experienced fatigue, heaviness, tiredness or cramping in your leg muscles during activity that is relieved by rest? Do you have pain in your legs or feet that disturbs your sleep? Are there sores on your toes, feet or legs that heal slowly or poorly?

These could be symptoms of poor circulation in your legs. If you have experienced any of these symptoms, you may benefit from the screening. Participants will have blood pressures taken on arms and ankles and complete a short survey about their symptoms.

Following the screening, you will have an opportunity to review the results with Steven Carr, MD, of Cardiovascular Consultants. To schedule an appointment, call 573-331-6369.

Starting Point Program Provides Healthy Weight Loss

Do you want to better manage your weight and improve your health? The Starting Point program at HealthPoint Fitness can help.

Starting Point is a medically supervised program which emphasizes nutrition and fitness for rapid and safe weight loss.

HealthPoint Offers Mini Munchkin Camp for Kids

Children, ages 2 to 5, will enjoy a morning of fun with games, music, craft, activity and more at the HealthPoint Mini Munchkin Camp.

The camp will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at HealthPoint – Jackson and Tuesday, Dec. 11, at HealthPoint – Cape.

Explorer Post 4077 to Meet in December

Explorer Post 4077 of Southeast Hospital offers young people, ages 14 to 21, the opportunity to explore the many career options available in healthcare. Professionals from various disciplines share experiences, give tours of clinical areas and provide hands-on opportunities.

The group will meet on Thursday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. in Meeting Room 106 at Southeast Hospital. For more information, call 573-331-6655.

Southeast Offers Support Group for Weight-Loss Surgery Patients

Have you undergone or are you considering bariatric weight-loss surgery? If so, the Bariatric Support Group at Southeast Hospital can help.

The group meets monthly. The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 15, from 10 to 11:15 a.m. at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. The sessions cover a variety of topics including medical management, meal planning and nutrition, behavior change and motivation, and exercise and fitness.

Journeys Support Group Focuses on ‘Celebrating Life’ Amid Cancer 

Scott Givens, manager of HealthPoint Fitness in Jackson, will discuss “Celebrating Life during the Cancer Journey” at the Southeast Journeys Cancer Support Group meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 18, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Unity Room at the Southeast Cancer Center.

This support group covers educational topics from the American Cancer Society’s “I Can Cope” series. The meeting includes a question and answer session, and also offers care, support and encouragement for those battling cancer and their families/caregivers.

Southeast Weight Management Center to Hold Free Session on Weight-Loss Programs

The Southeast Weight Management Center will hold an informational session about its weight-loss programs. The session will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 18, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at HealthPoint in Cape Girardeau.

Obesity is a leading cause of preventable illness and death in the United States. It also can have a significant impact on self-esteem and the ability to enjoy life. The Southeast Weight Management Center offers a comprehensive program that can be tailored to the unique health and weight-loss needs of individuals with any type of weight condition.

HealthPoint – Cape to Hold Fit-N-Fun Camp for Children

Children, ages 5 to 12, will enjoy three hours of fun with games, activities and more at the HealthPoint Fit-N-Fun Camp on Thursday, Dec. 27. The camp will be held at HealthPoint – Cape from 9 a.m. to noon. Snack will be provided.
