SoutheastHEALTH President and CEO Wayne Smith announced today that D. Matthew Shoemaker, DO, has been named Vice President of Physician Services, effective Tuesday, January 1, 2013.
Dr. Shoemaker will work closely with Chief Medical Officer Dennis Means, MD, to ensure that patients continue receiving the highest quality care. Dr. Shoemaker’s responsibilities also will include collaborating with the Southeast Medical Group to build a physician-led and physician-managed organization. “We want our physicians to have a strong voice and leadership in the governance and operations of SoutheastHEALTH,” Smith said.
“Dr. Shoemaker will have a vital role as we continue to grow as a regional healthcare organization and expand our physician relationships,” Smith added. “He has excellent leadership skills and is well respected by his peers. We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Shoemaker to the SoutheastHEALTH team.”
Dr. Shoemaker said he is “grateful to be administratively involved with SoutheastHEALTH. I’m excited about the opportunity to make a positive and lasting impact on our physician practices.”
A southeast Missouri native, Dr. Shoemaker earned his undergraduate degrees in Biology and Philosophy at the University of Missouri – Columbia and his DO degree at the University of Health Sciences – College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Mo. He has been part of the Cape Girardeau medical community since 2007. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine.
