HealthPoint Fitness Offers New Year Enrollment Special

There is NOTHING keeping you from a healthier 2013. There’s no enrollment fee if you join HealthPoint Fitness in January! As a HealthPoint member, you will have access to two facilities - one in Cape and the other in Jackson.

HealthPoint Offers Mini Munchkin Camp

HealthPoint Fitness will hold its Mini Munchkin Camp in January in Cape Girardeau and Jackson for children, ages 2 to 5.

The Cape Girardeau camp will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 8; the HealthPoint – Jackson camp will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 15. Both camps will be held from 10:30 AM to noon.

Children will enjoy a morning of fun with games, music, craft activity, snacks and more. The cost is $15 per child; $20 per child for nonmembers. To register, call HealthPoint  Cape at 986-4400 or HealthPoint  Jackson at 243-2211.

Bosom Buddies Support Group Benefits Women Coping with Breast Cancer

Women who have or have had breast cancer will benefit from the Bosom Buddies support group offered through SoutheastHEALTH.

The support group is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, Jan. 8, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at HealthPoint – Cape. Clinical dietitian Trisha Friess, RD, LD, will suggest which foods are best to eat when dealing with cancer.

Bosom Buddies offers opportunities to share feelings and experiences, as well as breast cancer information. For more information, contact April Walton at 573-519-4847.

Southeast Provides Support Group for Weight-Loss Surgery Patients

Have you undergone or are you considering bariatric weight-loss surgery? If so, the Bariatric Support Group at Southeast Hospital can help.The group meets monthly. The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 19, from 10 to 11:15 a.m. at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. The sessions cover a variety of topics including medical management, meal planning and nutrition, behavior change and motivation, and exercise and fitness.For more information, contact dietitian Raina Childers, MS, RD, LD, at 573-986-4440.

Healthy Cooking: Mediterranean Meals for Your Health

Start the new year with “Mediterranean Meals for Your Health” at the Healthy Cooking class offered at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. The class will be held on Monday, Jan. 21, from 6 to 7:15 PM.

Many studies confirm the health benefits of this diet such as lower risks for cardiovascular disease and cancer. Call 986-4440 for more information or to sign up. Preregistration is requested. The cost is $3 for HealthPoint members and $5 for nonmembers.

Infusion Services Nurse Manager to Speak to Journeys Cancer Support Group

SoutheastHEALTH Infusion Services Nurse Manager Terri Stuckey, RN, BSN, OCN, will discuss “Managing the Effects of Illness and Treatment” at the Journeys Cancer Support Group meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 22.

The meeting will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Unity Room at the Southeast Cancer Center in Cape Girardeau. The support group covers educational topics from the American Cancer Society’s “I Can Cope” series. For more information, call 573-519-4754.

Southeast Weight Management Center to Hold Informational Session

Southeast Weight Management Center will hold a free informational session on Tuesday, Jan. 22, to explain both surgical and non-surgical, weight-loss options.

Ryan A. LeGrand, MD, of the Weight Management Center will discuss the various options. The hour-and-half session will be held at HealthPoint Cape, starting at 5:30 PM.

Obesity is a leading cause of preventable illness and death in the United States. The Southeast Weight Management Center offers a comprehensive program that can be tailored to the unique health and weight-loss needs of individuals with any type of weight condition.
