Diabetes Support Group to Feature Healthy Cooking Demonstration

The Diabetes Self-Management Support Group will enjoy a healthy cooking demonstration at its meeting on Tuesday, June 11, at 1 p.m. at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau.

Registered dietitian and HealthPoint Nutritional Services Coordinator Raina Childers, MS, RD, LD, will prepare berries of the season. Recipes will be provided.

Cancer Society, SoutheastHEALTH Present Relay for Life at Arena Park, June 14 and 15

American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will be held at Arena Park in Cape Girardeau, starting on Friday, June 14, at 6 p.m. and ending on Saturday, June 15, at 3 a.m.

SoutheastHEALTH is the Presenting Sponsor for the annual event, which raises funds for the American Cancer Society and the fight against cancer. The Relay is open to the public and offers fun activities for all ages.

Southeast Offers Support Group for Weight-Loss Surgery Patients

Have you undergone or are you considering bariatric weight-loss surgery? If so, SoutheastHEALTH’s Bariatric Support Group can help.

The group meets monthly. The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, June 15, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. The sessions cover a variety of topics including medical management, meal planning and nutrition, behavior change and motivation, and exercise and fitness.

‘Some Like It Hot’ Healthy Cooking Class Showcases Meals with Peppers

Peppers are rich in vitamins, minerals phytochemicals. The many variations in flavor, texture and color allow for a wide range of culinary creativity.

Come to the “Some Like It Hot” Healthy Cooking class and experience the “heat” when HealthPoint’s Nutritional Services Coordinator Raina Childers, MS, RD, LD, demonstrates great ways to include peppers in your diet.

The class will be held on Monday, June 17, from 6 to 7:15 p.m. at HealthPoint – Cape.  The cost is $3 for HealthPoint members and $5 for non-members. Call 573-986-4440 to register.

Southeast Journeys Cancer Support Group to Focus on ‘Managing Stress’

SoutheastHEALTH social worker Lynn Boren, BSW, will discuss “Managing Stress” at the meeting of the Southeast Journeys Cancer Support Group on Tuesday, June 25.

The monthly meeting will be held in the Unity Room of the Southeast Cancer Center from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The support group covers educational topics from the American Cancer Society’s “I Can Cope” series.

Each meeting includes a question and answer session, and also offers care, support and encouragement for those battling cancer and their families/caregivers. For more information, call 573-519-4754.

Southeast Weight Management Center Offers Free, Informational Session on June 25

The Southeast Weight Management Center offers a comprehensive program that can be tailored to the unique health and weight-loss needs of individuals with any type of weight condition.

The Center will hold a free, informational session on Tuesday, June 25, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. Ryan A. LeGrand, MD, of the Southeast Weight Management Center will discuss both surgical and non-surgical options.
