SoutheastHEALTH Trustees Recognized for Governance Excellence

The Missouri Hospital Association recently presented Governance Excellence recognition to three SoutheastHEALTH trustees.  John M. Thompson, Robert “Bob” Neff and Frank Kinder received certificates during the MHA Leadership Forum in Lake Ozark, Mo., earlier this month.

The trustees completed the MHA’s educational development program designed for hospital board members.  The Governance Excellence Certificate Program was launched in 2011 to enhance hospital trustees’ skills and provide them with increased knowledge with issues pertaining to hospital governance for their organizations.

Thompson serves as chairman of the Southeast Hospital Board of Trustees; Neff is vice chairman and Kinder is secretary/treasurer.

Wayne Smith, President and CEO of SoutheastHEALTH said, “The best boards and board members are always engaged in self-examination, retaining the best of their core values that continuously adapt to an ever changing environment.  The fittest always survive, in nature and especially in hospital governance today.”

“Hospitals are complex organizations,” said Herb B. Kuhn, MHA president and CEO. “To add value to decisions about hospital operations and support a hospital’s work in the community, a trustee must have a thorough understanding of a range of responsibilities in governance practices and the integration of the hospital’s mission and values. The Governance Excellence Certificate Program is designed to expand trustees’ knowledge base and provide enhanced decision-making skills.”

Training began during MHA’s annual convention in November 2012 and each trustee completed independent study modules as part of the certificate program.

Twenty-seven trustees from 19 hospitals across the state were recognized at the June forum.
