HealthPoint Offers July Enrollment Special for Veterans and Active Military Personnel

HealthPoint Fitness salutes America’s veterans with a special promotion throughout July. All veterans and active military personnel may join our fitness center without having to pay an enrollment fee.

HealthPoint also is featuring a patriotic flag display at its fitness centers in Cape Girardeau and Jackson.

Diabetes Support Group to Focus on Neuropathy at July 9 Session

Neuropathy is often associated with diabetes. People who have had diabetes for a long period of time or those who do not control their blood sugar suffer from more severe nerve damage.

The Diabetes Self-Management Support Group will focus on the basics of diabetic neuropathy at its meeting on Tuesday, July 9, at 1 p.m. at HealthPoint – Cape.

The presentation will explain methods of monitoring neuropathy and treatment options. For more information, call 573-339-0121. 

New Parents to Benefit from Southeast Hospital’s Lifesaver Class

Lifesaver class for new parents will be held on Wednesday, July 10, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Meeting Room 106 at Southeast Hospital.

This class helps parents recognize, prevent and respond to life-threatening situations.

The class covers infant CPR and how to aid a choking infant.The class is free for those delivering at Southeast Hospital. The cost is $10 for others. Seating is limited.

Healthy Cooking Class to Stir Up a ‘Berry Blast’ at HealthPoint

Healthy Cooking class will stir up a “Berry Blast” on Monday, July 15, at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau.

The class, which will be held from 6 to 7:15 p.m., will explore different and unusual recipes using nutrient-packed berries. These richly colored powerhouses are abundant during the summer months.

Join HealthPoint Nutritional Services Coordinator Raina Childers, MS, RD, LD, to learn how to incorporate berries into your diet.Cost is $3 for HealthPoint members and $5 for non-members.

Southeast Offers Support Group for Weight-Loss Surgery Patients

Have you undergone or are you considering bariatric weight-loss surgery? If so, SoutheastHEALTH’s Bariatric Support Group can help.

The group meets monthly. The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, July 20, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. The sessions cover a variety of topics including medical management, meal planning and nutrition, behavior change and motivation, and exercise and fitness.

Southeast Journeys Support Group to Focus on Physical Therapy for Cancer Patients

Southeast Journeys Cancer Support Group will focus on the topic of physical therapy during cancer treatment at its meeting on Tuesday, July 23. SoutheastHEALTH physical therapist Paula Stout, PT, DPT, CLT, will discuss the issue.

The support group will meet in the Unity Room of the Southeast Cancer Center from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The group coves educational topics from the American Cancer Society’s “I Can Cope” series. The meeting includes a question and answer session, and also offers care, support and encouragement for those battling cancer and their families and caregivers.

Southeast Weight Management Center Offers Free, Informational Session on July 23

The Southeast Weight Management Center offers a comprehensive program that can be tailored to the unique health and weight-loss needs of individuals with any type of weight condition.

The Center will hold a free, informational session on Tuesday, July 23, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. Ryan A.
