HealthPoint Fitness to Hold Open House on Saturday, Sept. 7, in Cape and Jackson

Southeast HealthPoint Fitness will celebrate its anniversary and top honor in the People’s Choice Awards as the area’s best fitness center by hosting a public open house on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its Cape Girardeau and Jackson locations.

The celebration will feature tours and demonstrations. Door prizes will be awarded. Grilled hotdogs and refreshments will be served.

The enrollment fee will be waived throughout September for those who join HealthPoint. Experience the newest workout in the area by attending a free introductory CrossFit boot camp class in September, offered on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. and Fridays at 8:30 a.m. at HealthPoint – Cape.

Diabetes Support Group to Focus on Colon Cancer Prevention at Sept. 10 Session

One in 20 men and women will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Excluding skin cancers, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in the United States.

The Diabetes Self-Management Support Group will focus on nutrition and colon cancer prevention at its meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m. at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau.

Participants will learn more about healthy eating and steps to lower the risk of colon cancer while controlling blood glucose. For more information, call 573-339-0121.

Mended Hearts Group to Focus on Radial Approach to Coronary Angiograms

Southeast Hospital Cath Lab registered nurse Scott Pullen will discuss the radial (wrist) approach to coronary angiograms at a meeting of the Mended Hearts group on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 6 p.m. in the Hospital’s Harrison Room.

SoutheastHEALTH Supports Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sept. 14

The Cape County Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Cape County Park North.

Sponsored by SoutheastHEALTH, the event will begin with registration at 8 a.m., followed by the walk at 9 a.m.

Alzheimer’s is the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death. For more information, visit alzstl.org.

Cooking Class at HealthPoint to Demonstrate Healthy Pizza Party

School is back in session and busy nights could bring the pizza man to the door. Southeast’s Healthy Cooking class will focus on a healthy pizza party on Monday, Sept. 16, from 6 to 7:15 p.m. at HealthPoint – Cape.

Join HealthPoint Nutritional Services Coordinator Raina Childers, MS, RD, LD, for some easy recipes for pizza that the whole family can prepare and enjoy.

Inpatient Rehab to Host Annual Patient Reunion at Southeast Hospital on Sept. 19

Southeast Hospital’s Inpatient Rehabilitation will host its annual patient reunion on Thursday, Sept. 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Hospital’s Harrison Room.

Refreshments will be served. Matthew Karshner, MD, medical director of Inpatient Rehab, will speak. Door prizes will be awarded.

SoutheastHEALTH Offers Starting Point Program for Weight Management

Starting Point is a medically supervised, weight-management program which emphasizes nutrition and fitness.

Southeast Provides Support Group for Weight-Loss Surgery Patients

Have you undergone or are you considering bariatric weight-loss surgery? If so, SoutheastHEALTH’s Bariatric Support Group can help.

The group meets monthly. The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10 to 11 a.m. at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. The sessions cover a variety of topics including medical management, meal planning and nutrition, behavior change and motivation, and exercise and fitness.

Southeast Journeys Group Offers Support to Cancer Patients

The Southeast Journeys Cancer Support Group offers care, support and encouragement for those battling cancer and their families/caregivers. The group also covers educational topics from the American Cancer Society’s “I Can Cope” series.

The group will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., in the Unity Room at the Southeast Cancer Center. The September topic is “What’s on Your Mind?” Meetings include a question and answer session. For more information, call 573-519-4754.
