Southeast Hospital Receives Vascular Surgery Excellence Award
Healthgrades also gave top ratings to carotid surgery and treatment of stroke at Southeast.
Southeast Hospital has earned the Vascular Surgery Excellence Award™for the second year in a row. The 2014 award means that Southeast ranks among the top 10 percent of hospitals nationwide in this surgical specialty. The presentation was made by Healthgrades, the leading online resource where consumers compare physician and hospital care.
Southeast is also Five-Star rated in carotid surgery and treatment of stroke for 2014. This is the sixth year in a row that SoutheastHEALTH has earned the highest recognition in these two categories.
SoutheastHEALTH President and CEO Wayne Smith said, “This award recognizes our clinical excellence. To be in the top 10 percent in the nation for vascular surgery coupled with our Five-Star ratings for carotid surgery and treatment of stroke means our patients have excellent outcomes. We are obviously proud that Southeast is being recognized as one of the best performing hospitals in the nation.”
Healthgrades announced the ratings in a published report, “American Hospital Quality Outcomes 2014: Healthgrades Report to the Nation.” Healthgrades evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals and almost 40 million hospitalization records nationwide from 2010 through 2012.
Evan Marks, executive vice president of strategy and informatics for Healthgrades, added, “As American policymakers focus more intently on ways to lower healthcare costs and improve quality, patients are being asked to assume more responsibility for their healthcare decisions from selection of their health plan to the associated network of physicians and hospitals.”
It is important, as he explained, “that since all hospitals do not perform equally in all procedures, patients can have confidence that by selecting physicians associated with a hospital with a Five-Star rating, patients are more likely to experience better health outcomes and reduced costs.”
