HealthPoint Fitness Offers January Enrollment Special

Start the New Year right. Join HealthPoint Fitness in January for only a $10 enrollment fee and begin your journey to better fitness in 2014.
Membership includes access to both Cape and Jackson HealthPoint facilities, three fitness assessments with our HealthPoint trainers and a nutritional consultation with a registered dietitian for everyone in the family.

SportsCare Provides Free Injury Screenings

Southeast SportsCare provides free injury screenings at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. The screenings, performed by certified athletic trainers, are offered Monday mornings from 7 to 9 a.m. No appointment is necessary.
The screenings are open to everyone, regardless of age and athletic ability. “We have seen everything from a young boy who sprained his toe on the playground to an elderly woman with wrist pain from working in her garden over the weekend,” says SportsCare Field Representative Katie Niles.

Kids Bee Fit Classes Serve Up Fitness Fun in Cape, Jackson

It’s never too early to shape up. HealthPoint Fitness offers Kids Bee Fit classes for children, ages 2 to 6.
The classes are held on Tuesdays at 9 a.m. and Fridays at 10:15 a.m. at HealthPoint in Jackson, and on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:15 a.m. at HealthPoint – Cape.

Sibling Class Helps Children Prepare for New Family Member

Southeast Hospital’s Sibling Class will be held on Mondays, Jan. 6 and 20, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Hospital’s Harrison Room.
This class is designed to help children prepare, in a positive way, for the addition of a new family member. The class is geared toward children, ages 3 to 9. Class size is limited.

HealthPoint Fitness Offers Kids Yoga to Improve Health

Sign up your child for Kids Yoga at HealthPoint Fitness. It’s a safe, fun, challenging and healthful activity.
Kids Yoga will help strengthen growing bodies, stretch muscles and improve balance and coordination. The class will be held on Tuesdays at HealthPoint – Jackson, beginning on Jan. 7, and on Wednesdays at HealthPoint – Cape, beginning Jan. 8.
Tuesday sessions will be held from 5:30 to 6 p.m.; Wednesday sessions will be held from 6:30 to 7 p.m.

Bosom Buddies Support Group to Meet on Jan.  7

Bosom Buddies breast cancer support group will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at HealthPoint in Cape Girardeau.
Bosom Buddies support group is open to all women who have or have had breast cancer. No resolutions will be made at this month's meeting, but suggestions will be offered. A special activity is planned, so come and join in the sharing, fun and refreshments. For more information, contact Barb McKeon at 573-334-7388.

SoutheastHEALTH Provides Support Group for Weight-Loss Surgery Patients

Have you undergone or are you considering bariatric weight-loss surgery? If so, SoutheastHEALTH’s Bariatric Support Group can help.
The group meets monthly. The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 18, from 10 to 11 a.m. at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. The sessions cover a variety of topics including meal planning and nutrition, behavior change and motivation, and exercise and fitness.

Healthy Cooking Class Showcases Meals to Reduce Inflammation

Many chronic diseases are attributed to inflammation in the body. Healthy eating, along with adequate sleep, stress management and exercise, can reduce this risk.
The Healthy Cooking class at Southeast HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau will showcase meals to reduce inflammation. The class will be held on Monday, Jan. 20, from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Join HealthPoint Nutritional Services Coordinator Raina Childers, MS, RD, LD, for some great recipes that make our “cells” feel better.
Cost is $3 for HealthPoint members and $5 for non-members. Call 573-986-4440 to register.

HealthPoint Fitness to Hold Parents’ Night Out

Need an evening without the kids? HealthPoint’s Parents’ Night Out gives parents the opportunity to take a well-deserved break.
Go out for a night on the town feeling confident that your children are safe and having a great time.
HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau will hold Parents’ Night Out on Friday, Jan. 24, from 6 to 9 p.m. for children, ages 2 to 12. Children will enjoy a variety of games, activities and crafts. Supper will be provided.
The cost is $10 per child for HealthPoint members and $15 per child for non-members. To register your child, call 573-986-4400.
