HealthPoint Fitness Offers Enrollment Special for Those Who Serve and Protect

HealthPoint Fitness salutes those who serve and protect with free enrollment for all military, law enforcement and fire department personnel in July.

HealthPoint Fitness to Host Independence Day 5K Race

HealthPoint Fitness in Jackson will host its annual Independence Day 5K Run and Walk on Friday, July 4, starting at 7:04 a.m.

The event supports SoutheastHEALTH’s children’s health and wellness programs. Participants may register by 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape or Jackson, or online at active.com. Child care will be available during the event.

SportsCare Holds Weekly Injury Screenings

SportsCare athletic trainers conduct free injury screenings on Mondays at HealthPoint – Cape from 7 to 9 a.m. No appointment is needed.

Diabetes Self-Management Support Group to Focus on Challenges of Daily Living

The Diabetes Self-Management Support Group will focus on managing the day-to-day challenges of living with diabetes at its meeting on Tuesday, July 8, at 1 p.m. at HealthPoint Plaza in Cape Girardeau.

Participants will learn how to recognize diabetes burnout and how to cope with depression, stress and guilt. The presentation will explain how to manage diabetes at work and when traveling.

Bosom Buddies Support Group to Explore Cancer Fatigue

The Bosom Buddies support group will explore causes of fatigue for breast cancer patients and how to cope with it. The group will meet on Tuesday, July 8, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at HealthPoint – Cape.

Bosom Buddies is open to all women who have or have had breast cancer. Support group participants monthly share experiences, information and hope. To learn more, contact Barb McKeon at 573-334-7388.

SoutheastHEALTH Offers Starting Point Program for Weight Management

Do you want to better manage your weight and improve your health? SoutheastHEALTH’s Starting Point program at HealthPoint Fitness can help.

Starting Point is a medically supervised, weight-management program which emphasizes nutrition and fitness.

You can learn more about this program at a free, informational session on Thursday, July 10, at 7 p.m. at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. For more information, contact dietitian Raina Childers at 573-986-4440.

SoutheastHEALTH Provides Support Group for Weight-Loss Surgery Patients

Have you undergone or are you considering bariatric weight-loss surgery? If so, SoutheastHEALTH’s Bariatric Support Group can help.

The group meets monthly. The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, July 19, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. The free sessions cover a variety of topics including meal planning and nutrition, behavior change and motivation, and exercise and fitness.

Healthy Cooking: Summer Desserts

A light dessert can be a refreshing way to finish a great meal. The Healthy Cooking class at HealthPoint – Cape on Monday, July 21, at 6 p.m. will offer tips, samples and super recipes that taste great without extra fuss.

Nutritional Services Coordinator and registered dietitian Raina Childers will showcase healthy desserts. The cost is $3 for HealthPoint members and $5 for non-members. Call 573-986-4440 to register.

Camp DAY Break Offers Summer Fun for Children with Diabetes

Children with diabetes will have a chance to learn how to cope with the disease in a fun, summer camp setting. Camp DAY Break (Diabetes And Youth) will be held on Thursday and Friday, July 31 and Aug. 1, at HealthPoint Fitness in Jackson.

Southeast Diabetes Center will conduct the day camp for children, ages 6 to 13. It will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on both days. Registration deadline is Monday, July 7.

Camp DAY Break is a program of the Kohl’s Youth Diabetes Care Network. For camp applications or further information, contact the Diabetes Center, 15 Doctors’ Park, at 573-339-0121.
