SportsCare Holds Weekly Injury Screenings

SportsCare athletic trainers conduct free injury screenings on Mondays at HealthPoint – Cape from 7 to 9 a.m. No appointment is needed.

Southeast Hospital Offers ‘Childbirth – Nature’s Way’ Program

Southeast Hospital will offer “Childbirth – Nature’s Way,” a program of six weekly sessions that will prepare women for birth as well as breastfeeding and transitioning into parenthood.

The program will be held on Tuesdays, starting Aug. 5. It will be held from 6 to 7:45 p.m. in Room 106 at Southeast Hospital. The class is based on the premise that a woman’s body knows how to deliver her baby. Instruction will emphasize the six Lamaze Healthy Birth Practices, which are based on medical evidence and designed to promote a safe and healthy pregnancy and birth.

Bosom Buddies Support Group to Enjoy Summer Fun

The Bosom Buddies support group will enjoy some summer fun; baseball bingo and an ice cream social on Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at HealthPoint – Cape.

Bosom Buddies is open to all women who have or have had breast cancer. Support group participants monthly share experiences, information and hope. To learn more, contact Barb McKeon at 573-334-7388.

Southeast Sports Offers Athletic Physicals

Southeast SportsCare will offer athletic physicals during Jackson’s public school enrollments in August.

All athletes participating in a sport during the 2014-2015 school year are welcome to obtain physicals during designated times. The cost is $25.

Physicals will be offered at Jackson High School from 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Aug. 6, 7 and 8; at Jackson Junior High School from 8 a.m. to noon on Aug. 6 and 7 and 2 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 7; and at Jackson Middle School on Aug. 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

'Scrapbook Crop' Set for Aug. 9 at Southeast Hospital

A “Scrapbook Crop” will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Harrison Room at Southeast Hospital.

The “Scrapbook Crop” supports the SoutheastHEALTH Auxiliary’s state project which focuses on children with special needs and disabilities. A $5 donation is requested to participate.

Bring your supplies – photos, adhesives, embellishments, cutting machines, etc. – and SoutheastHEALTH will provide the work tables. Have fun sharing ideas and techniques with fellow scrappers. For more information, contact organizer Lisa Wiggins, RN, at 573-331-7974.

Diabetes Self-Management Support Group to Focus on Ear, Nose & Throat Problems

Mark C. Rusten, MD, of Southeast Ear, Nose & Throat will discuss common problems that can occur with the ears, nose and throat, especially for those living with diabetes. Dr. Rusten will speak to the Diabetes Self-Management Support Group on Tuesday, Aug. 12 at HealthPoint Plaza in Cape Girardeau. The meeting starts at 1 p.m.

SoutheastHEALTH Provides Support Group for Weight-Loss Surgery Patients

Have you undergone or are you considering bariatric weight-loss surgery? If so, SoutheastHEALTH’s Bariatric Support Group can help.

The group meets monthly. The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 16, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. The free sessions cover a variety of topics including meal planning and nutrition, behavior change and motivation, and exercise and fitness.

Healthy Cooking: Entrees with Eggs
