SoutheastHEALTH Auxiliary Shoe Sale Set for Tuesday, April 7

SoutheastHEALTH Auxiliary will host a Shoe Roads Productions Shoe Show on Tuesday, April 7, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Harrison Room at Southeast Hospital.

The sale will feature a wide variety of men’s and women’s shoes for sale, including Klogs, Dankso and Alegria, as well as seasonal shoes. New, hand-painted shoes also will be for sale. Proceeds will benefit Southeast Hospital projects.

In addition, old shoes will be collected for the Shoeman Water Project. Those shoes will be exported and resold to help buy well-drilling rigs and water purification systems to provide clean water for developing countries.

Turning Point Program for Breast Cancer Survivors Begins April 7 at HealthPoint Plaza

The 2015 spring session of Turning Point, a free program from SoutheastHEALTH for anyone diagnosed with breast cancer within the past year, will be held on Tuesdays, starting April 7. The program will run through May 12.

The weekly class will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at HealthPoint Plaza in Cape Girardeau. The program is offered twice a year, once in the spring and again in the fall.

Participants will receive six-month memberships to HealthPoint Fitness and personal fitness assessments with an appropriate exercise prescription. Turning Point classes will focus on healing for the mind, body and spirit. The free classes address everything from the benefits of exercise and proper nutrition to understanding chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer Support Group to Focus on 'Lifting Your Spirits'

Bosom Buddies breast cancer support group will focus on “Lifting Your Spirits” at its meeting on Tuesday, April 7, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau.

Bosom Buddies is open to all women who have or have had breast cancer. Support group participants monthly share experiences, information and hope. To learn more, contact Barb McKeon at 573-334-7388.

SoutheastHEALTH Auxiliary’s ‘Southern Charm’ Trip to Benefit Hospital Projects

SoutheastHEALTH Auxiliary will offer some “Southern Charm” this fall with a trip to Savannah and Jekyll Island, Ga.; Charleston, S.C.; and St. Augustine, Fla.

Proceeds from the weeklong trip, scheduled for Oct. 10 through 16, will benefit SoutheastHEALTH projects. You can learn more about this trip to the “Low Country” at presentations on Thursday, April 9, at 3 and 6 p.m. in Meeting Room 106 at Southeast Hospital.

Facilitated by 1st Class Travel, the trip is organized through Collette Travel. Shari Elfrink of 1st Class Travel and Sonia Smith of Collette Travel will discuss details of the trip at the presentations. HealthPoint – Jackson to Host Kids Extravaganza Health & Fitness Fair

Children will enjoy plenty of activities at the Kids Extravaganza Health & Fitness Fair on Saturday, April 18, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Southeast HealthPoint Fitness in Jackson.

The event is free for kids, ages 2 to 12. The fair will feature a wide range of activities, including face painting, a bounce house and a Kids’ Fun Run, as well as information on summer youth programs, diabetes and dental health. The Fun Run will be held at 10:15 a.m.

HealthPoint – Jackson Offers Free Self-Defense Class for Women

Girls and women can learn how to protect themselves at a free self-defense class at HealthPoint Fitness in Jackson.

The hour-long class at HealthPoint will be offered at 10 and 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 18. The self-defense class is open to females, ages 12 and older.

Moo Sul Kwan Martial Arts instructor Doug Johnson, who has a black belt, will teach the self-defense sessions. Participants should dress comfortably for movement. To register, call HealthPoint at 573-755-2301.

Healthy Cooking Class to Feature ‘Breakfast Brilliance’

Healthy Cooking class will focus on “Breakfast Brilliance” on Monday, April 20, at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. The class will be held from 6 to 7:15 p.m.

Often overlooked for its nutritional importance and easy preparation, a healthy breakfast is the key to starting any day right. It even works as a way to mix up a dinnertime meal.

Masquerade $5 Jewelry, Accessories Sale Set for April 27, 28

SoutheastHEALTH Auxiliary will hold its “Masquerade $5 Jewelry and Accessories” sale on Monday and Tuesday, April 27 and 28, in Southeast Hospital’s Harrison Room.

Proceeds benefit Hospital projects. Purchases may be made by cash and credit/debit cards.

SoutheastHEALTH Volunteer Services to Host Red Cross Blood Drive

Give the gift of life and encourage your friends, family and coworkers to do the same at an American Red Cross blood drive, which will be held on Thursday, April 30, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Harrison Room at Southeast Hospital.

SoutheastHEALTH Volunteer Services will host the blood drive. The Red Cross says there’s still an urgent need for blood.

Walk-ins are welcome. Advance appointments may be made by calling Volunteer Services at 573-651-5518.

Diabetes Self-Management Support Group to Focus on ‘Savvy Supermarket Shopping’

The Diabetes Self-Management Support Group will focus on “Savvy Supermarket Shopping” when it meets on Tuesday, April 14, from 1 to 2 p.m. at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau.

You’ll learn how to plan your shopping trip, what to look for and proper reading of food labels. One of the Southeast Diabetes Center diabetes educators will present the program. This free support group is designed for people who are living with diabetes and trying to control their blood glucose.

Mended Hearts Support Group to Discuss Congestive Heart Failure

SoutheastHEALTH Heart Failure Coordinator Mary Beth Corgan, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, will discuss “Congestive Heart Failure: The Vicious Cycle” at the Mended Hearts support group meeting on April 14.

The group will meet at 6 p.m. in Southeast Hospital’s Harrison Room. The local Mended Hearts chapter is part of the nationwide heart patient support network.

Membership is open to heart disease patients and their families, medical and other healthcare professionals, and anyone who has an interest in furthering the mission and objectives of the Mended Hearts group. For more information, call 573-331-6630.

SoutheastHEALTH Grief Support Group to Focus on ‘Finding Balance in Your Grief’

SoutheastHEALTH’s Grief Support Group will focus on “Finding Balance in Your Grief” at its meeting on Wednesday, April 15, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at HealthPoint Plaza in Cape Girardeau.

The support group offers a safe place for adults to come together to share their grief following the death of a loved one. Trained facilitators lead educational programs and provide an opportunity to share and heal. The group offers participants understanding, support and hope.
