September 26, 2016

Southeast has received this honor five consecutive years and this year is one of just 223 hospitals nationwide to receive this prestigious and respected recognition.

Southeast Hospital has received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR ACTION Registry – Get With The Guidelines (GTWG) Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2016. Southeast is one of just 223 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor.

The award recognizes Southeast’s ongoing commitment and sustained success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that Southeast Hospital has reached an impressive and aggressive goal of treating these patients in accordance with standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.

The Center for Disease Control estimates that over 700,000 Americans suffer a heart attack each year. Treatment guidelines include administering aspirin upon arrival and discharge, timely restoration of blood flow to the blocked artery, smoking cessation counseling and cardiac rehabilitation.

Gabe Soto, MD, PhD, a cardiologist with Cardiovascular Consultants, says Southeast is unwavering in its commitment to making care for heart attack patients. “The Platinum Performance Award is another example of the national recognition given to Southeast and Cardiovascular Consultants for the exceptional cardiovascular care we provide to our patients. We are fortunate to have an expert team of physicians, nurses and support staff who are highly trained and who embrace opportunities to continually advance care of the hundreds of heart attack patients we treat every year.”

As a Platinum Performance Award recipient, Southeast has demonstrated it is a leader in implementing standards of care and the latest protocols for patients, notes Deepak Bhatt, MD, ACTION Registry – GWTG chair and professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. “Southeast Hospital is saving lives and improving outcomes for heart attack patients by meeting registry requirements and establishing a culture of providing guideline-recommended therapy.”

The commitment of Southeast’s cardiologists to maintaining the knowledge, skills and attitudes essential for excellent patient care is also exemplified by Southeast being the only heart center in the region to have all of its interventional cardiologists certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Interventional Cardiology.
