This class program is taught by a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE) and is aimed toward preparing those who are planning natural childbirth, or those who would just like a more in-depth preparation for their childbirth. The class is based on the premise that a woman's body naturally knows how to deliver her baby. Instruction will emphasize the Six Healthy Birth Practices of Lamaze. These practices are based on medical evidence and are designed to promote and support safe and healthy pregnancy and birth.
The program consists of five weekly sessions that, in addition to Lamaze theory, will cover the emotional and physical changes of pregnancy, the labor process as it occurs naturally, coping techniques for pain in labor, medical options for pain control, common medical interventions, and cesarean delivery. We will also discuss the physical and emotional changes that follow delivery, as well as normal newborn adjustment and breastfeeding. Time is reserved for the practice of coping techniques as well as a testimonial from a couple that has recently experienced birth naturally. For maximum benefit, it is highly recommended that you plan to attend all five classes with your partner or labor support person.
This class is held on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00pm for five weeks. A new series will start every six weeks, please check the schedule as you will want to start this class in the early part of your last trimester. The class size is limited to eight couples, so we suggest you register early to secure your seat.
This class is offered free to those delivering at Southeast Hospital.
All others will be charged a $200 fee per couple that will be collected on the first night of class.
