Ways to Give

At Southeast Health, we are committed to providing excellent, compassionate and cost-effective healthcare to our communities. Your gift will assists us in delivering this care, and will have a far-reaching impact on individuals and the community as a whole.

Cash Gifts & Annual Giving

Annual gifts strengthen every single area of SoutheastHEALTH and provide funds for those in our area most in need of care.

Gifts of cash are the most popular way to give and are tax deductible. Through your gifts of cash, it is possible to reduce or eliminate income tax on up to 50% of your gross income. Larger gifts can actually result in tax savings for the year the gift is made and as many as five future years.

You can direct your sustaining annual gift—of any size—to the SoutheastHEALTH department or program you choose to support. These gifts provide crucial unrestricted funds: a pool of resources that can be quickly and easily used by SoutheastHEALTH to address opportunities and challenges that fall outside of normal budgeting parameters.

You may contribute to any fund by:

  • Making a gift online now
  • Responding to a mail appeal
  • Creating a Sustaining Gift that automatically donates monthly from a credit or debit card
  • Make a gift of securities
  • Establishing payroll deduction (for SoutheastHEALTH staff)
  • Establishing an electronic funds transfer, which authorizes the automatic transfer of funds each month from your checking or savings account

Honorary & Memorial Gifts

A memorial or honor gift is a meaningful way to celebrate someone important to you.

A memorial gift or gift in honor of someone is an appropriate way to remember a special person while at the same time helping others. After you have made your contribution in memory or in honor, an acknowledgement letter or email will be sent to the person(s) you designate and a tax receipt will be sent to you. We do not specify the amount of the donation unless you request it, and you may customize your message to the recipient. Memorial and tribute donations to SoutheastHEALTH Foundation are fully tax-deductible as provided by law.

Commemorative Bricks Garden or Prisms of Light

The Foundation Commemorative Brick Garden offers the opportunity to have your name (or that of a loved one) etched onto a brick in the beautiful courtyard garden area at Southeast Hospital and/or at the garden of Southeast Cancer Center. The Prisms of Light stained glass naming wall is your opportunity to provide a meaningful, lasting tribute. Your support will also help preserve the beauty of the Southeast Cancer Center for those on their cancer journey.

Each stained glass pane will be handmade by local glass artist, Robert Parsons. When finished, the glass will be personalized with a simple, elegant dedication and then arranged together into a full window mosaic.

Stained glass tributes are designed to recognize generous gifts and long-term pledges of $5,000 to $20,000 to our Cancer Care Fund.

Grateful Patient Program

At one time or another, each of us will need to trust our lives or the life of a loved one to a team of healthcare professionals. The Grateful Patient Program provides an opportunity for friends and family to say “Thank you” for the care received by making a financial contribution to the SoutheastHEALTH Foundation. Gifts of any amount are greatly appreciated.

From purchasing cutting-edge equipment, to providing continuing education for nursing and medical staff – your gift makes a difference. Donations to the Grateful Patient Program help enhance and continue the outstanding level of care our community has come to expect from SoutheastHEALTH.

SoutheastHEALTH is one of the most valuable healthcare resources in the region, and the role of the Foundation is to support its various departments, programs and services. TGH is a ‘safety-net hospital, meaning that our programs and services are available to the more than four million residents of our 12-county region who need us, regardless of ability to pay. We provide some specialized services that are not available at any other hospital in our community.

If you wish, the SoutheastHEALTH Foundation will notify the physician, nurse or department that provided your exceptional care of your generous gift to the Grateful Patient Program. All gifts will be recognized and are tax deductible.

Planned Giving & Endowment

Bequests

Bequests are the most popular form of a planned gift to SoutheastHEALTH. The myth that only wealthy people can make a bequest is false. Individuals of modest means who feel they cannot make a gift during their lifetime can do so in their will. Such donors benefit directly by not depleting current income, reducing estate taxes, supporting a program of choice, and honoring a loved one.

Individuals who notify the Foundation of their bequest intentions become members in the Legacy Society and receive acknowledgement on the Foundation website and the annual honor roll of donors. Please contact Patricia Ranzini at 573-519-4921 or pranzini@sehealth.org for additional assistance in making arrangements for a bequest.

Endowment Funds

SoutheastHEALTH receives gifts from many donors whose loyal support continues for years. Endowments can serve to extend such loyalty beyond one's lifetime. An endowment fund permanently sets aside and invests funds to generate annual income for the hospital, Cancer Center, or the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Additionally, endowments provide an opportunity to permanently honor and memorialize a donor's generosity, creating a legacy that lives through the ages. Please contact Patricia Ranzini at 573-519-4921 or pranzini@sehealth.org for more information on our endowment program.

Charitable Gift Annuity

A Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) is a simple way to make a lifelong gift to SoutheastHEALTH and supplement your income at the same time. You make a gift and SoutheastHEALTH Foundation returns you income for your life.

A CGA is not insurance. When a gift annuity is arranged, a specified amount of cash and/or stocks is transferred to the hospital in exchange for a guaranteed fixed regular payment for the donor's life (or lives if the contract is based on two lives).

Here are the benefits for you:

  • A fixed income for life that you can depend on
  • A sizable tax deduction the year the gift is made
  • A portion of your annual income is tax-free supplemental income for retirement
  • If fund by appreciated securities, capital gains spread over the donor's life expectancy rather than filing taxable gain in one lump sum
  • A generous expression of support for SoutheastHEALTH

Could this be for you? Please contact Patricia Ranzini at 573-519-4921 or pranzini@sehealth.org for a sample charitable gift annuity calculation.

Charitable Remainder Trust

With a charitable remainder trust, your gift is placed in a trust. The trust sells and reinvests the assets, and makes regular income payments to you and/or other named beneficiaries. Payments may last either for a specific number of years or for one or two lifetimes. The payout rate is variable and based on the fair market value of the gift placed in the trust.

Charitable Lead Trust

A lead trust is a useful tool for individuals who want to pass property on to family members at the lowest possible gift tax and estate tax cost and who, at the same time, want to make a gift to SoutheastHEALTH. Your assets are protected in a trust for a specific period you choose and the income earned is paid to SoutheastHEALTH Foundation. At the end of the trust, the principal and income is distributed tax-free to you or your designated beneficiaries.

Insurance Policy

It is common to have a life insurance policy that may no longer be needed for its original purpose. Naming SoutheastHEALTH as the owner and beneficiary of the policy provides you with an immediate tax deduction, and the value of the policy will be removed from your estate for probate purposes.

IRA'S and Retirement Plans

One of the most beneficial ways for dealing with IRA's or other retirement plans is to create a charitable trust in your will to be funded with your IRA. It may not only save taxes but greatly increase the amount received by your beneficiaries.
