SoutheastHEALTH’s Gastroenterology Services has received a SCOPY - Service Award for Colorectal Cancer Outreach, Prevention and Year-Round Prevention - for its innovative call to action encouraging people to be proactive with their colon health.
The award, presented by the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), cites Southeast as a “Best Patient Testimonial/Compelling Call to Action” winner. Jennifer Taylor, director of Central Sterile and GI Services, said SoutheastHEALTH’s marketing team created a vlog of a patient’s colonoscopy experience from beginning to end to “help educate, inform and decrease the fear of this important preventative measure. We filmed each aspect of the patient journey and had honest dialogue about each step and expectation, including key educational pieces.” To watch the video, click on this link: https://youtu.be/1NlsOkI7z_Y
The video, posted to YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, reached over 10,000 community members. “Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable cancers,” Taylor added. “A screening colonoscopy can detect pre-cancerous polyps or catch cancer when it is most treatable and curable. Educating people about the importance of screening colonoscopies is key to our mission of community health.”
This year the ACG presented a total of 24 SCOPY Awards in multiple categories to support colorectal cancer prevention at their national conference in Las Vegas. These initiatives included increasing screening among patients who delayed due to COVID-19, creativity in leveraging new forms of media and integrating pop culture to grow awareness among new audiences.
