For Leigh Hampton, Palliative Care is a specialty like few others. "It focuses on time," Leigh says. "Time spent getting to know each patient and his or her family members. Time spent understanding the unique story of each patient and how their own experience relates to managing their illness. Time spent educating, explaining and attending to the details so over overlooked in today's healthcare model." She finds it very rewarding to focus on helping patients maintain their independence, control and dignity as well as serving as an advocate for her patients.

Leigh is excited to be part of the SoutheastHEALTH team that is bringing our region's first comprehensive Palliative Care program that offers both inpatient and community-based services. "Providing this level of Palliative Care gives our region a unique service that promotes ongoing curative care aligned with the patient's goals for their care," she says.

Palliative care is specialized medical care for people living with a serious illness. The goal of palliative care is to relieve symptoms and improve quality of life for both patients and families. Southeast Health board certified family nurse practitioner Leigh Hampton has more.
