Noninvasive Heart Testing

If your healthcare provider thinks there may be something wrong with your heart, you may need some tests to pinpoint the problem.

At SoutheastHEALTH, we offer a full range of noninvasive tests that your primary healthcare provider or your cardiologist may order—for instance, to find out why you are having chest pain or an irregular heartbeat. A heart test can help diagnose conditions such as coronary heart disease or atrial fibrillation.

Noninvasive Heart Tests Offered at Our Cardiology Clinic

Tests we offer include:

Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG). This test monitors the electrical activity of your heart.

Stress tests. These include treadmill stress tests and nuclear stress tests.

For a treadmill stress test, you walk on a treadmill while your heart is monitored with an electrocardiogram. We'll also monitor your blood pressure, symptoms, and heart rhythm (with an EKG).

A nuclear stress test is an imaging method that shows how well blood flows into your heart muscle, both at rest and while you're on a treadmill.

We also perform chemical stress tests called Lexiscan Cardiolite, which do not require a patient to walk on a treadmill.

Echocardiograms. These tests use sound waves to see inside your heart.

Ambulatory cardiac monitoring. For these tests, you wear a device that records your heart's electrical activity for 24 to 48 hours or up to 30 days.

In addition to heart tests, we offer many noninvasive vascular tests to check the health of your other arteries.

A member of our knowledgeable and courteous staff will greet you when you arrive for your test. Our highly experienced staff members will explain what to expect and answer any questions or concerns that you may have.

Your tests will be read by a board-certified cardiologist and you or the ordering provider should expect to receive results within five business days. For some patients, lifestyle changes or medications, or both, may be all that is needed to address a cardiac problem.
