Share Grief Program

The Share Grief support program at Southeast Hospital, started in 1985, serves families whose lives are touched by the tragic death of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or newborn death.

  • Share provides support toward positive resolution of grief experienced with the loss of a baby.
  • Support is emotional, physical, spiritual and social healing.
  • Share offers information, education and resources to assist grieving parents and siblings.
  • Share treats all infants with respect and dignity.

Share Grief Support Services

  • If parents choose, they may have photographs of their infant and plaster castings made of the baby's feet.
  • Mothers who suffer an early miscarriage receive a pin of two tiny feet, the exact size and shape of an unborn baby's feet at 10 weeks.
  • Donated wedding and bridesmaids' gowns are repurposed by a neonatal intensive care unit nurse and her mother into unique, made with love, burial gowns and rompers.

Littlest Angels

Through a generous donation by Cape County Memorial park, the cemetery has a Share Grief Support memorial.

The "Littlest Angels" area is for exclusive use of parents whose baby died before the 20th week of pregnancy.

Located in the rear center portion of the park, it features a bronze marker donated by Share parents. Flowers and other items may be taken to the marker.

Infant burials are performed four times a year: last week of March, June, September and December.

  • Parents are asked to wait until the first week of the following month to visit the gravesite.
  • There are no formal services. Parents may have their own private service. Inform Memorial Park of the desire to have a service by calling 573.334.1909.

Share Memorial Wall

A Share Memorial Wall Plaque is located at Cape County Memorial Park in Section 16 near the Share burial site. The memorial is for all bereaved families, no matter where their baby has been buried. Personalized bronze nameplates are available for $125.

Share Christmas Tree

Each holiday season, the Share support system at SoutheastHEALTH invites families to place an ornament on the Share Christmas tree in remembrance of their baby.

  • Ornaments are saved to hang on the tree from year to year.
  • The tree is displayed during December on the Obstetrics Unit at Southeast Hospital.
