Mammograms
Tips for your ease, comfort and an accurate exam
Regular mammograms help find cancer in its early stages, when it's usually easier to treat. In fact, when breast cancer is detected before it spreads, the average 5-year survival rate is 99%.
PLAN AHEAD
Schedule your mammogram for the week after your period, when your breasts are less likely to be swollen and tender. If you have implants, tell the facility when you make the appointment.
Arrange for any previous mammograms to be sent for comparison. Or get copies to bring with you.
WHAT TO AVOID
On the day of your mammogram, don't use deodorant, powders, lotions or perfumes on your chest or arms. These products can show up as white spots on your mammogram, affecting its accuracy.
HOW TO DRESS
Wear a top or blouse—with pants or a skirt—rather than a dress. That way, you'll only need to undress from the waist up.

Let the technologist know about any concerns you have about your breasts.

PROTECT YOUR FUTURE
Women age 45 or older should get regular mammograms, according to the American Cancer Society. Women with a high risk of breast cancer should start screening earlier.

Women's wellness exams. We'll do a Pap test when needed, and we'll talk about screening for sexually transmitted infections and gynecologic cancers. We'll also cover anything else that might be on your mind. That includes questions about sex, periods, preconception or menopause.
Family planning and infertility services. We're here to help you find the right birth control and can counsel you on emergency contraception options like the morning after pill. If you're having trouble paying for contraception, we'll help you find the most affordable option. We offer infertility treatments like intrauterine insemination too.
Pregnancy care. We staff both obstetrician-gynecologists and certified midwives to provide the pregnancy and labor and delivery care that's right for you. We also have a laborist on staff at our hospital to address acute obstetrics needs. If an urgent issue comes up during your pregnancy, you can be seen by a doctor right away. We also participate in the Building Blocks community health program, which helps vulnerable first-time moms achieve healthier pregnancy outcomes and babies.
Care for hormonal issues. Hormonal changes can present in multiple different ways, Menopause, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and other endocrine issues are things we regularly evaluate. We'll get to the bottom of the problem and find the right solution for you. We also offer hormonal support for those who have undergone gender transitioning or who are a candidate for gender transitioning.
Care for pelvic floor disorders. Incontinence, pelvic pain, prolapse and postpartum problems are all pelvic floor issues that you don’t have to live with. Our experienced physical therapists offer private, one-on-one assessments and treatment to get pelvic floor problems under control.
Care for gynecologic and breast cancers. A cancer diagnosis calls for coordinated care. We'll work closely with our dedicated cancer specialists to manage breast, cervical, vaginal, vulvar, ovarian, uterine and endometrial cancer diagnoses—and help you achieve the best possible outcome.
