This is a one night class that is held one night a month from 6:00 to 8:30PM. Instruction is provided by a Lamaze educator that is a nurse on the OB unit.

Topics include:

  • Labor and birth as it occurs naturally
  • Coping techniques to ease the pain sensations of labor
  • Medical options for pain control
  • Common medical procedures
  • Cesarean delivery

Your partner or support person is encouraged to attend with you.

Cost: $40 for those not delivering at Southeast Hospital.

Sibling Class

Sibling Class

The Sibling Class helps prepare brothers and sisters to welcome a new baby brother or sister.

  • For children ages 3 to 9
  • Class focuses on helping siblings prepare for a change in the family
    • What to expect when baby comes home
    • What siblings can do to help mom
    • Encourages siblings to share feelings with mom and dad
    • Assure siblings they will always have their special place in the family
  • A short video teaches how to safely handle the new baby using life-size dolls.
  • Children tour the OB unit and enjoy a snack before going home.

Sibling Class is offered Wednesday evenings at Southeast Hospital. Parents may observe class if they wish

Lifesaver Class for New Parents

Lifesaver Class for New Parents

This class helps parents recognize, prevent and respond to life-threatening situations.

  • Infant CPR
  • Response to a choking infant
  • Steps to reduce risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome)

The class dates vary from month to month and limited to 9 couples.

Cost: $20 for those not delivering here.

Learn everything you need to know about breastfeeding, at your own pace, and in the comfort of your home. This program explains

  • Benefits of breastfeeding
  • How your body makes milk
  • Latching, positioning
  • Breastfeeding holds
  • Feeding patterns
  • Routine breast care
  • Returning to work, expressing, storing milk

Class participants also receive the book, “Understanding Breastfeeding.”

Cost: $20 for those not delivering here.

Note: The Breastfeeding Class which is held on a Tuesday evening immediately follows the Lifesaver Class. If you are registered for Lamaze Class, you do not need a separate Breastfeeding Class, as this will be covered in the Lamaze Class.

The class is an online resource for expectant parents and includes the free book, “See What You Read: Childbirth,” a comprehensive book that also allows you to “see what you read” at a special website.

  • More than 50 video clips showing real-life examples of the subjects you’re reading about
  • Watch
    • Breathing, relaxation techniques
    • Helpful labor positions
    • Animation of stages of labor
    • Four complete birth stories and more.

Sign up for the online class to receive the book, and also get additional information about the website.

  • When you sign up for the book, you do not need to sign up for Childbirth Preparation classes.

Epidural Class – Online (English)

Epidural Class – Online (English)

This class educates you on anesthesia choices, including using an epidural for labor. Anesthesia options for Cesarean delivery are also included.

Two-Part Class

  • To complete the first part of the class, view the Epidural Video.
  • For the second part of the class, complete the Health History Form and submit it.
    • Health history information will be sent to the OB Nurse Navigator who will keep it on file on the OB unit.
    • You will receive an email confirmation that the form has been received.
    • When you come in for labor, the Anesthetist will review the information and you will sign the page indicated informed consent.

Bienvenidos a nuestra clase online de anestesia epidural. La clase provee información sobre las opciones de anestesia, incluyendo el uso de unaanestesia epidural durante el labor del parto. Además incluye información sobre la operac, ión de cesárea y susbeneficios, riesgos y las complicaciones potenciales.

Como funciona la clase:

La clase consiste en dos partes. Para completar la primera parte de la clase, por favor mire el video en estapágina. Para la segunda parte de la clase, complete un formulario breve sobre su historia de salud, y entréguelo. Se manda la información al enfermero navegador, quien imprimirá el formulario completo y lo ubicará en un archivo personal con suinformación. El archivo quedará en el salón de obstetricia. Usted recibirá una confirmación por email que el formulario haya sido revisado por el enfermero navegador. Cuando usted venga para el labor del parto, el anestesistar evisará la información y firmará la página para indicar consentimiento informado.

NOTA: Si usted tiene preocupaciones especiales sobre la anestesia o alguna situacione médica que pueda afectar cómo escoje una opción, se recomienda hacer una cita con el enfermero navegador.
